Splitful ("Splitful", "we", "us", or "our") is a product of Liondel Inc. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use the Splitful mobile application and website at splitful.app (collectively, the "Service").
By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- Account information: your name, mobile phone number, and (optionally) email address and profile photo
- Hang and expense data: group names, expense descriptions, amounts, participants, and payment status you enter into the Service
- Communications: messages and feedback you send us
Information collected automatically:
- Device identifiers, IP address, app version, operating system, and approximate location (city/region)
- Usage analytics (screens viewed, features used, crashes)
Information from third parties:
- If you sign in via Google or Apple, we receive your name, email, and a unique identifier from those providers
2. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Create and authenticate your account
- Operate core features (creating hangs, splitting expenses, sending invites, requesting payments)
- Send transactional text messages and notifications you've opted into
- Provide customer support
- Detect fraud, abuse, and security issues
- Improve and develop the Service
- Comply with legal obligations
3. SMS / Text Messaging
What we send: verification codes, hang invitations, RSVP confirmations, expense split notifications, payment requests and confirmations, and account-related alerts.
Frequency: message frequency varies based on your activity.
Opt-in: you opt in by entering your phone number and affirmatively checking the consent checkbox at splitful.app/sms-opt-in (or the equivalent prompt within the app). The checkbox is not pre-selected. We do not collect SMS opt-in via any other channel.
Opt-out: reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe. Reply HELP for assistance. You may also opt out from within the app under Settings โ Notifications.
Costs: standard message and data rates may apply per your mobile carrier plan. Splitful is not responsible for carrier charges.
No third-party sharing of SMS data: No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support of our services (for example, message delivery providers such as Twilio) is permitted. All other use cases exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
4. How We Share Information
We share information only as follows:
- With other Splitful users you interact with: when you create or join a hang, your name and profile information are visible to other participants in that hang
- With service providers (subprocessors): infrastructure, analytics, authentication, payment, and message delivery vendors (including Twilio for SMS, Stripe for payments, and similar). These providers are contractually limited to using your information only to perform services for us
- For legal reasons: if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of users or the public
- In a business transfer: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to the protections of this Policy
- With your consent: for any other purpose disclosed at the time of collection
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your mobile phone number, SMS opt-in status, or message content with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
5. Data Retention
We retain account and usage information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period after to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. You may delete your account at any time from Settings โ Account โ Delete Account, after which we will delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, subject to legal retention requirements.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access, correct, or delete your personal information
- Opt out of certain processing
- Port your data
- Withdraw consent (including SMS consent โ see Section 3)

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing." We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under CCPA.
7. Children's Privacy
Splitful is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Users
Splitful is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
